Thank you to all who support Truth Connect! As you can imagine, a new
non-profit organization has many challenges and plenty of work to be done. Karen and I are so thankful to God for
friends like you who have commited to pray and give as God provides. We know a number of our friends are
experiencing financial difficulties and we pray for them as they pray for us. God truly is the One who provides for us all!
I was recently inspired by an
aspect of Hernando Cortes’ story known as the Cortes Initiative. Cortes
was a Spanish conquistador who in 1519 led 600 men on eleven ships from Cuba to
the Yucatan Peninsula in search of great treasure―treasure that many others
attempted to claim but failed. Cortes’
gathered his whinning and complaining men together on the shore and gave them
very odd orders―Burn the ships! “If we go home,” Cortes said, “we’re going
home in their boats.” With no other alternative left but to
fight―live or die, the men fought passionately. For the first time in six
hundred years, the treasure was taken.
When Karen and I founded Truth
Connect, we had in a way practiced the Cortes
Initiative. We burned our boats of
safety (financial savings, previous jobs, etc.) in order to follow the Lord’s
call to train and encourage Church leaders in developing countries to make
Christian disciples. It has been
exciting, challenging, and faith building.
Thank you for standing with us on
this “Truth Connect shore” as we work to equip Church leaders to fulfill Jesus
Christ’s great command to “Go, make disciples of all nations…” (Matt.
28:19-20).
