Eating Termites in Kenya

I have had an interesting year traveling to India, Africa and the Caribbean to teach leadership development skills.  On my last trip to Africa I had a most unusual meal.  Richard Rohde, a Truth Connect board member, and I were in Nairobi airport waiting for our flight to depart to Entebbe, Uganda.  We had time for a meal and so visited a nice restaurant.  On the menu I saw "mchwa" and was curious.  When the waitress stopped by I asked what "mchwa" was.  Her response, "Termites." Now I was intrigued and asked how they prepared the termites.  She explained they were roasted and lightly salted.  I had to try them and placed the order.  She returned with a coconut sized wooden bowl full of mchwa.  Being the civilized man I am, I used a teaspoon to eat my termites.  They were quite tasty!  Richard tasted them but wasn't quite as enthusiastic about them.  I ate about half the bowl of termites and enjoyed each and every bug!

A bowl of high protein "mchwa" aka. termites.

My first taste of mchwa / termites was quite good!
